2012: Small Changes

As you may have noticed, over the last while, I have posted some of my photographs on this web site. I have owned a Canon DSLR Camera for almost a year. i try to shoot on a daily basis. Digital photography ties in with computing very well. There is endless things to learn like photographic processes,, photo layouts, proper backup methods, and not to mention all the accessories that go along with digital photography.

I am very much a amateur photographer, Over the last months, I shoot on a daily basis and read as much material I can about photography. I really enjoy it. My DSLR Camera has become my favourite piece of tech.

As part of www.abomputing.ca I will be posting photographs here on a regular basis. I will also include some tips and basic information about digital photography. More Digital Photography

I traveled to the local bike path with the intention of shooting more photos. I have been there more than a few times over the summer. I am a beginner when it comes to photography so, I have been taking a lot of pictures with my photo gear. It is very much an experiment and a enjoyable learning experience. I enjoy the technology of digital photos and DSLR Cameras. Often I set out looking for something that would make a decent photograph, more often, however the SD card remains empty.

On Wednesday July 27, 2011, as I exited the bike path, I noticed a different path just off the road. I decided to use that path as a detour home. I moved down the path and I caught a glimpse of something stirring in the bushes. I stopped and turned my camera on. Recently, I purchased the Canon EOS Rebel XS DSLR . Here are some photographs I have taken recently:

These photos were shot on July 17, 2011, in early evening using the above mentioned camera with a Canon Ultrasonic EF 75 – 300mm Telephoto lens. Internet Explorer 9 in Windows Update

Today, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 9 appeared as an important but optional upgrade in Windows Update. For users who manually check for updates, the IE9 browser upgrade item is unchecked and will not download and install automatically. if you want Internet Explorer 9 you must check the item in windows update.

As always, use caution when upgrading any software on a PC, specifically on a business PC. Many companies frown on updating to a new version of software until it is deemed compatible with there own (and their vendors) internet structures or websites. In short, before you upgrade to Internet Explorer 9 you should make certain that the websites you utilize to conduct your business are IE9 compliant or compatible. Often, many companies will be able to tell you if they are compliant, when you contact their IT department.

Microsoft has not set a date for the automatic upgrade offer, but said last week that it will begin reaching some users this month, and will have been made available to all users by the end of June. When Microsoft does switch on the IE9 upgrade, the browser will automatically be offered to Vista- and Windows7-powered PCs running IE7 or IE8. Users will see a splash screen that allows them to install the new browser, decline the upgrade or ask that it be delayed.

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

Important Points to Remember

The recommended (and easiest) way to get SP1 is to turn on automatic updating in Windows Update in Control Panel, and wait for Windows 7 to notify you that SP1 is ready to install. It takes about 30 minutes to install, and you’ll need to restart your computer about halfway through the installation.

Before you begin

Before you install SP1, we recommend you do the following:

If you have any pre release versions of SP1 installed, uninstall them before installing the final release version of SP1. To do this, follow the instructions in "Uninstalling SP1" in this topic.
Back up your important files to an external location, such as an external hard disk, DVD or CD, USB flash drive, or network folder. For more information, search "Backing up files and folders" in Help and Support.
If you’re using a laptop computer, connect it to an AC electrical outlet and don’t unplug or restart the computer during installation.
Some antivirus software might prevent SP1 from installing, or might slow down the installation. You can try temporarily disabling your antivirus software. If you do so, be sure that you’re aware of the risks involved, and be sure to re-enable it after the service pack is installed.

Notebook Battery Charging and Maintenance

Laptop batteries are notorious for dying out and losing charge quickly. If you treat your battery with the utmost care, you’ll have success in getting the most out of it. Know what type of battery you have and understand how it needs to be treated in order to perform. But first make sure you charge your laptop battery properly when using it for the first time

Most laptops today are equipped with Lithium Ion batteries, but older models may run off a Nickel Metal Hydride or Nickel Cadmium battery. It’s essential that you learn your model’s specifications so you can follow the correct usage practices. This is the only way you’ll be able to achieve maximum battery power.

The amount of time it takes for your battery to fully charge depends on many factors, like your battery type and operating system. Many newer laptops will charge in 15 to 20 minutes, while others can take a few hours.

When you’re charging your battery for the first time, charge it fully before using your laptop. You may have to go through a battery cycle a couple times before your battery begins performing at its maximum capability. To do this, charge your battery fully, let it discharge to about five percent, and then fully charge it again.

Charging your battery for the first time is just the beginning. You must give your laptop battery the utmost attention if you want to get the best out of it.

Never let your battery stay connected to a power source once it’s fully charged. This leaves the battery in a constant state of charging up, ultimately reducing its life cycle. Once your battery is charged, unplug your laptop’s AC adepter, or remove the battery.

When you’re storing a battery, expect it to naturally discharge itself about 10 to 15 percent over a four-month period. It’s best to fully charge your battery before storage. When you are storing your battery, you should plug it into your laptop every month or so and let it discharge and charge back up a little. Make sure you fully discharge and charge your battery every three or four months.

There are several tips to preserving your battery life and achieving its maximum performance. One simple thing users can do is turn down the brightness of their screen as low as possible. Another option is to check your battery performance tool installed on your computer. This will allow you to control exactly how you want your battery’s power to be used.

When you’re using your laptop, try not to run many programs at once. This will kill your battery life quickly, and also try to close down any programs that you aren’t using at the moment. Go into your computer’s settings and adjust features like screen savers, sleep/hibernate mode and auto-save functions to suit you
